Middlesbrough's Sam Morsy has escaped a retrospective charge following a review by an independent FA panel.

The midfielder stayed on the field against Preston North End on Tuesday night, while PNE skipper Alan Browne was sent off for reacting to - as replays showed - two elbows swung towards his face from the Boro man in the first-half.

Morsy was then taken off by Neil Warnock at half-time, as Boro went on to win the game 2-0.

On the incident, Neil said on Tuesday night: "It's an extremely poor decision. Sam Morsy hits him in the back of the head and Alan instinctively reacts because he's been hit twice.

"It's hard to accept and understand how the referee and his assistants can see Alan's part and not Sam Morsy's part - which changed the game in their favour.
