The panic has gone out of the defence with Dael in there.
Warnock can now play whatever formation he wants  :like:

Best centre back we've produced since Gibson. I was really impressed with him when he came back with Norwich recently. Best I've seen in my time are pallister and Southgate. I was a bit young for boam and maddren

He has to do it for a sustained period now, if he is to be mentioned along with the likes of Pallister and Southgate.
He went through a lengthy shaky patch, but hopefully that is behind him now  :like:

P.S. What the fuck has been happening on here since my little sabbatical....you see that's what happens when you lose classy and dignified posters....good job I am back  :snob: :rudi1:

Got to agree, he's not in their class yet. Oh and everyone thought you were a cunt so set up a new board  :mcl:

I think he may have surpassed Gibson. Wish we found the cash for gibbo in the summer, we would have a few more points on the board that's for sure

Im not sure you know.......he is a good defender but can he do it as a  'modern' defender.. that's then the unanswered question....its not as clean cut for me :like:

u shouldn't be really playing this game but because you've asked its about playing out from the back...rather than just defending your goal and clearing your lines which ov course he is good at.... You dont get many lump it defenders these days,,,,,,, :like:

Pallister was the best I've seen at doing this. There's too much reliance on it now. Gibson actually impressed me for Norwich in how much he's improved that side of his game. Some times you just need to lump it fella and put the ball in the stands. Dael is far from just a lump it though. Maybe you should stop playing this game  :jc:

I think in the past our best duos have been a lump it + a sweeper, a footballer

Boam and Maddren

Southgate and Hugo (can’t spell surname)

The best, for me, Pearson and Festa, who is n my top five Boro players ever

I think its wrong to suggest be is a hoof it defender anyway, he's not Beckenbauer but he's decent on the ball. His reads the game fantastically well and has been imperious this season

When he plays well, we play well , for a young lad he does seem to be the rock our defence is now based on , totally controlled a very good CF yesterday who tried all ways to get at him & failed

We are reaping the benefits of having to play a lot of youngsters over the past few years. He’s only 22 and must have played over 100 games for us already

I suspect the manager has helped a bit or at least not hindered.  When we got beat by Rotherham 1-0 away in 2016, I noticed Fry and Gibson looked particularly uncomfortable at some points when we were in possession.  It was noticeable that every time they approached the half way line looking up to spread a pass forward they had one eye on the pitch, stopped and just passed it sideways.

I wonder if Karanka insisted that they should not pass the half way line no matter what and if that's the case, how must it affect the flow of your thinking during the game if you have rules that to adhere to?

No evidence of this, its just an opinion but that's how it looked anyway.

Assume you are taking the piss but we couldn’t afford to buy Fry or Tav so we must be doing something right in growing our own

In my time I don't remember us producing a decent striker, lad called proudlock I think back in the 80's was the next big thing apparently. What happened to him  :what:
We've had some half decent ones but our defenders have appeared to be better players when they come through from what I've seen

Paul proudlock, monkey hanger ended up back playing for them.

We've been consistently shite at producing a top class striker. Even when we buy decent ones we turn them into shit. Last decent striker we had that we made good was slaven. That's nearly 40 years ago  :souey:
