It's got to be Claudius for me. conquered his physical disabilities and was a good emperor (not as cruel or sadistic as some of the cunts). Conquered England, giving us decent roads to get to away matches, fine wine, and gave us solid villas instead of mud shit holes. :pope:

It's a historical novel so a bit more exciting than a dry history book.

It was written by Robert Graves who was good mates with my Great Grandfather :pope:

He was one of the most sane out of the lot of him. You may be mixing him up wioth his predessesor Caligula (Gaius). the book starts in his reign. He was mad as fuck. He made an attempt at invading Britain but a storm smashed his fleet. So instead he got his army to attack Neptune (the sea). . He then when back to Roman and did a Triumph through the city showing off all his spoils of victory (seashells, sand etc)

Robert Harris did a couple of good historical novels set in Rome.  Pompeii and Imperium and Lustrum

I bet the Romans wished Nero died quick, he would act in his own plays which dragged on for hours and hours and nobody was allowed to leave.

Never mind, he didn't like christians ron, you would have got on well with him. mcl

I've two things in common with good old Nero. I go on and on and on forever on a variety of subjects, often without pause or thought for the listener. I remember this one time... Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah...anyway the blond turned to the retired Colonel and said: I've only just had soup. You couldn't make it up.

There's only one person on here obsessed with class.
And he's so obviously ashamed of his working class upbringing.
