Maybe it's down to their booming "Celtic Tiger" economy, because they are still in the EU! Just saying like!

It's the hangover from the previous "Celtic Tiger", the scars of which are everywhere across the Republic, with semi-complete housing developments blocked off never to be finished.

The problem in Dublin they are swimming in money due to be a dodgy corporation tax haven, if the American VAT rules really bite then the last Celtic Tiger crash could look like a piss in the pond compared to potential future issues

They actually are. I worked a few years in County Mayo and standard jobless benefit was over €200 per week. The government would also build you a house if you had land to save on never ending housing benefit, and also because they lacked social housing.

People complain about single mothers in the Uk but in Ireland 2 kids guaranteed them around €30k a year and free housing.
