Maybe that question’s too simple to ask, given we all view racism differently. I reckon the majority of Teessiders would use terms which are deemed racist yet only a small minority would treat someone differently based on the colour of their skin. To be fair, you never hear the n word nowadays, whether people choose their audience better is unknown, however, the p word is still heard quite a bit (in my experience). I suppose those words have different origins too, I never understood why the p work was offensive, or more accurately why people allowed it to be.

The world has enough problems without needing racists but they’ll always be there until we (society) gets better at discussing issues with race instead of trying to force multiculturalism on people. If people choose to shout ‘racist’ at everything the communication stops. The more racism goes underground the stronger it will become.

Do you think generations change with time so issues never go away? When I was at school we had no black pupils but plenty of Asian ones. We all mixed together, including the Pakistani and Indian ones. As soon as we left school the groups spilt up and the white, Pakistani and Indians all went there separate ways. I still see some from time to time but they’re never in mixed groups.

On a different subject I think the same can be said for brexit, people claim to older brexiteers will die of but the middle aged remainers will replace them as they get older.

You wouldn't expect a letter containing dubious content to a national newspaper to be published after vetting so why not expect the same from social media?

That said, if you want to use social media sites which allow anonymity, you can't be surprised at the potential content. Best to stay away from those forums/sites if anything upsets you.

One issue with social media is proof. Anyone can say they left their phone/tablet/pc unlocked in a communal area so anyone could have accessed it.
