That is how it started with my mam She kept on forgetting where she had put things down..her glassess etc, Her long time memory was fine but her short term memory was shot. She then started to get confused down the local shops, and finding her way back....the parade of .shops she'd been too for 60 years! In the end she thought I was a complete stranger Awful disease

Absolutely terrible illness that affects the entire family. Robbed us of the last 7 years with our grandmother. To see her her slowly decline into someone that didn’t know any of us and lose all her witt and humour was an awful thing.
Keep an eye on him lids because this could well be an early sign .

Its s dreadful disease for sure, and upsetting for all the family. A typical conversation when paying a visit, between my young son and my mam when she first started going downhill, was Mam "So what you been doing this morning" Son " Playing footy over the park Nana" Mam "ahh thats nice, did you have fun and score any goals" Son "it was dead good Nana...and scored lots" Mam "aww that is nice, so what you been doing this morning then" Son "errrrr" Awful to see

It’s proper hard work bud father in law had this and I personally think it’s the most cruel disease
Try going through old photos most likely know everyone in them
Then try ones from about 2 - 3 weeks ago if struggles good chance early signs

Lids my mother passed away in 2015 with dementia/Alzheimer’s. It is a truely horrible experience for all of you. Get him to see a doctor asap( I know it’s difficult just now) insist. They will refer you and they will do some mental assessment tests, you need to do this quickly and you will probably come up against some strong opposition from your Dad. He will deny it. If he is suffering from some form of dementia he can become a danger not only to himself but also your Mam, that’s why i recommend you act fast. My mother was in a bungalow, we then had to move her to a self contained flat with care workers on hand 24/7 even then we had to move her to a home specialising in dementia care. You need to look at finances, possibly power of attorney if your mother struggles. Get social services involved and use all the help available to you. Don’t forget your Mam, she will need as much help as your dad, it’s going to be hard for her. I’m not saying this to scare you or depress you, it’s more so you can get all your ducks in a row, make any arrangements you have to then enjoy what ever time you have left with your dad.
Good luck and let’s hope it’s not as serious as you think👍

It's not necessarily dementia. Your dad's reaching the age where he'll be losing resistance to lots of everyday infections younger people shake off. Confusion is often a symptom followed by recovery once the underlying infection clears up. My dad (RIP 2017 age 97) experienced this - one day he'd be trying to go to work or to man the anti-aircfraft guns at the South Gare to repel Germans; a course of antibiotics and he'd be OK again. The care home had the doc in to test him a couple of times, but they certified him as insufficiently doolally.
We all experience some cognitive decline as we age; not all age-related cognitive decline is dementia. Anyway, hope your dad's OK.

My gran died from it last year, had it for about 10yrs, she had a good innings at 94 though. My old fella currently has it and is in a home, and has been for a few years now. He's a gibbering wreck, can't string any words together he went down hill quickly when it struck. Horrible disease to see first hand and more worrying how common place it is now. Hope your old man is just having a phase lids and picks up soon

Sympathies and best wishes.
I would also reiterate get to the dr asap as these are symptoms of a few illnesses. Friends Pa has vascular dimentia which got really bad very quickly and the research shows it could have been delayed/managed if they'd caught things earlier. Hoping you see the Dr quick and get some good news.

BEEN TOLD HE WAS UP AT 4 THIS MORNING IN THE BACK GARDEN 😔 Hate to break it to you lids but this is a classic symptom of it. The first thing to go is the body clock and all concept of time. An uncle of mine is exactly the same and thinks it’s bed time at 2pm. The sooner you get it confirmed by the dr the better as They can medicate the early stages. Also look at CBD oil too as it can calm them if they start having repetition issues Finally all the best to you... it’s a long hard road with no reward I’m afraid

It's a sad thing but it takes a lot of aged folk. My father in Law has just been diagnosed with it and you can see it kicking in but he is of a good age. Everyone if fretting about his demise but the chances are something else will take him before the dementia. My own Grandad got it bad, he was in a way quite lucky as he was in a care home, but he actually though he was in the club all the time so he was quite happy.
I hope your Dad he is healthy for as long as he can be. Plenty of good times left I'm sure

Make an appointment to get him diagnosed, sounds like onset of dementia or Alzheimiers.
Dad had it. Had to take his driving license off him.
You have to keep reminding them daily.

If its any help Lids i can steer you towards some fantastic organisations that can help with advice and any support you or your parents need. The problem with this horrible disease is that it does not get any easier mate, but the sooner you can get some sort of diagnosis for you old fella the better for the family but more importantly the better for your dad. Hang in there brother most of us are behind you........
