Rodgers isn't then.

I myself would class a vocalist as someone like Roy Orbison or Joe Longthorne.

Lovely lad is Joe.

He was living in Normanby back in 1990-92 time.  I used to work in the Mini Market on a night and after work we used to go to the woody or the Normanby. They were in the woody quite often during the week. Joe gave me a tape of their 1992 album North East Of Eden. There was a Scottish lad living with him at the time.

George Williamson must be in with a shout surely

George is a good soul singer, but when my old man was on the clubs in the 90s, george, his brothers Stew and Tony would enter competitions all over Teesside.  The only one that ever got the better of my dad was Stew, from the Manhattans. George never beat my dad once. George thought he’d walk the final, until he saw he was up against my Dad.
True story that.

The biggest name in North England is Dave Lee Michael. The bloke is magic. Could sing the alphabet that bloke.  Myself and Dave have a side project duo which rarely performs in the North East. We go out round Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.

Dave has brought me on vocally over the last two years, to the point where I’d give anyone on the circuit a run for their money.

Mention George to some of the old timers in clubland , and you’ll hear a different story, a story that would change people’s opinions of him. It has with me.

Saying that, I fucking hate clubland, it’s cliquey as fuck.

I guess once you become known in an area, the bookings dry up and you have to go elsewhere

Dave has brought me off over the last two years, to the point where I’d give anyone on the circuit a run for their money.

No, you get rebooked, most club turn arounds are 6 months, some clubs are 3 months, and others are 12 months.

Hotels and corporate are where the bigger fees come.

I'd say I return to about 80% of venues. With my agent, it's 100% return rate in the two years I've been with them. It's being sold to other agencies where a singer may not return to a venue within the clubs turn around structure.

We choose to do out of area because the fees are better and the commission rate is less than the NE.

In Cumbria it's 10% but 90% of my gigs over there are direct bookings so no agency fee.
Blackpool is 10-15%
Manchester/Merseyside/Lancashire/Yorkshire are all 10-15%
North East is 20% plus 4% tax.  Dixons Agency is 25% plus 4%.

NYE 2019 I was at Carlisle, on with a band, my fee was £900 with a 10% fee to the agent.
NYE 2020 was Coatham Club Redcar as a soloist, my fee was £650 with 20%+4 to the agent.

Obviously some of the posters on here wouldn't get out of bed for £900.... Not bad money for 80 minutes singing, 40 mins setting up and packing down, and a few hours driving.

Why are agent fees so much higher here then?

Looks like a gap in the market for an agent to set up locally charging a flat 10%

It's been tried Bernie. Thing is the agents all stick together and the acts are scared to go to the new agent in case they can't get the work.

A few year ago, Dixons were the main supplier of bands, and bands were going out for fees from £700 to £1500. That agency would then receive 30% of that fee, just for making a phone call to the venue and sending a few posters. Then the act would still have to pay the 4% of the agents tax.

That was tongue in cheek to see if you'd rise Rik. Emoji's don't work for me on this site :-))
I don't know the lads name from the Manhattans, he looks like the oldest and is always stood in the middle. He has a cracking voice.
