They won't need any luck - been coming for a while. Merc announced a year ago that they were stopping any future developments for petrol & diesel engines. The engines they make now will be the last ones they make.

I'm just wondering where they are going to get back the tax they will lose on petrol. Charging per mile driven perhaps?

It's way too soon. 20 - 30 years perhaps. There's no way they will have the infrastructure in place to support it by then. There will have have to be derogations in place for certain sectors.

James May summed it up brilliantly a few years back

one of the first production electric cars was made about 100 years ago... it had a range of approx 100 miles or so before needing hours to recharge.

2020 and most of the production electric cars have a range of approx 100 miles or so before needing hours to recharge.

the only difference???? the batteries have got smaller.

Been coming at an extreme rate of knots over the last five years. I bloody love cars but have come to accept that this is going to happen. Porsche have transferred production to all electric. It'll be done.

Top tip - cars are developing quickly. If you buy an electric/hybrid whatever now, it will be obsolete in four years, I would imagine, and its resale value will be shocking. Lease.

I'll be ancient by then and I can buy a forever car on 31st December 2029.

What isn't obsolete after 4 years? Would you buy a four year old phone or Laptop

By 2030 you'll own nothing and you'll be happy according to the disciples of the great reset

No car
No house
No foreign holidays
No shares or stocks or investments
No retirement fund

Remember how happy all those soviets were in the 70s 80s and 90s. Imagine all the fun you'll have queuing for bread.

Good point Bob, most of us concerned about it will probably have bigger issues to worry about before cars become a problem like making it to the bathroom on time without pissing ourselves.

Fair enough but writing off a £600 on a laptop is different to 50 conkers on a Tesla

This is an attack on the low income earners, which is wrong.

Given all the available cash for this Covid debacle the government should offer massive support incentives on swapping old petrol Diesel engines for eVs.

Again politics out of kilter with the facts ....

No conflation, just comparing a vision with the reality. There’s a lot of people on shit money, how the fuck can they afford to trade in their diesel to buy an expensive eV. I do actually embrace cleaner and sustainable technologies, that’s if we can overlook the poor black kids in Africa being abused by their despot leaders who are in the pockets of the gooks to mine for Lithium, Cobalt etc and the fact that the gooks’ emissions of carbon dioxide increases annually at a level which is more than our total emissions that remains fairly flat.

Because the government will give them a grant so they can afford it, of course

....the grant being about five hundred quid, so next to useless, but still, its the thought that counts

Tbh, poorer people will be driving petrol and diesel cars because they have never driven a new car. As the 30s progress their cars will collapse and they’ll get a second hand electric won’t they? It’s not an instant ban. There’s 000s of electrics around now; they’ll be available as 2nd hand 10 year old cars

But did you see Bojo's green clownworld announcement yesterday?

You're not every smart are you Bob?

Go on, explain to me how poor people can afford to swap out expensive batteries which have an ever decreasing capacity?

There are hardly any electric cars on the road, sure there's some hybrids but pure electric is still less than 1%.

I just enjoy exposing your bullshit. Though it's a bit like shooting fish in a barrel.

Only mugs go to main dealers for stuff like batteries, tyres, exhausts etc. Mind you, your car must be a fair age if it needs battery. And yet you claim to have bought it new just a year or two ago for 70k? Deffo something not right there like. I suppose that's why you have the private plate - to disguise the age.

So yeah.........you just keep on paying £400 quid for a battery when you can get a Bosch one for £150.
I bet the £400 didn't even include fitting. What a mug. They've had your eyes out. Same with the indicators.

Raises some questions about supply of petrol, as no doubt all the petrol stations will either close or become charging stations.

Where will people with classic cars get fuel? What about petrol for Lawnmowers? Diesel for generators?

HOW OBSESSED IS THAT STALKER BERNIE.... THINK I'VE PROOVED ME POINT.... ACTUALLY USING UP HIS OWN TIME GOING ONLINE TO CHECK UP  😂😂😂

YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE YOU SAD SACKED BASTARD  🤣🤣🤣

I'M FUCKING MINTED SO I USE MERCEDES AND MERC PARTS.... NOT FUCKING CHEAP HALFORDS SHITE 😂😂😂👎

Have three Sid's

it was a 70k when new obvs he only paid what is was worth at the time so when he goes on about his 70k car it maybe is only around 20k maybe 70k new but he didn't buy it new bit like a lad at work he has a 99 plate porsche Boxter which he refers to it as his porsche not the fact its only worth about £500  :nige: :nige:

I think you've sussed him. Bought a jag with 150k on the clock, whacked a £199 private plate on it and tells everyone about his £70k car  monkey

Shouldn't be needing a new battery until it's at least 7 or 8 years old.  He's backpeddling now like.  mick rava

People were having a reasonable-ish debate about something quite interesting. Now it's going to be a stunningly interesting fight about how much a bastard Jag/battery/indicator/packet of super-size jonnies cost.  :nige:

You go around pricing up parts you don't need?  charles

BEEP BEEP BEEP Warning - midget reversing BEEP BEEP BEEP

Either your car is nowhere near as new/expensive as you claimed, or else you have been ripped off on parts.

Either way you have done yourself up like a kipper (again).  monkey
