Is it any wonder these soft cunts haven't got a Jimmy Choo when it comes to football?

I was like a blend of a top German striker and a big Nigerian centre back.

I was pretty decent. Typical big centre forward. Good in the air. I covered every blade of grass because my touch was that bad. Played in a great team. Some of them playing Northern League still.

I played most of my footy amongst Tri-service teams but still played most Saturdays (later Sunday’s) as well. I used to get paid between £8 and £15 per week when I played in the east Anglian league. I took it as beer tickets for the club house and it was mainly to make up for my fuel costs but i can still say I’ve paid paid for my footballing skills.

Used to play in goal. Not a bad shot stopper but useless at crosses as I was skinny in those far off days and got easily bullied when trying catch them. Stayed on the line a lot because of that.

Signed for Villa as a school boy but injured my knee and was out for a few months. Never got back to the same level. We had a few scouts around in the 80s working for Villa

Played alongside two future greats at school and was arguably the best of the "star" trio. No regrets. Made more money doing what I did.

Outside of School teams only ever played for fun. Went backwards as I got older, from David Mills to Bobby Murdoch, to Willie Madren! He says modestly!

Point is, some were good some were shite, and some should have made it (wasted talent)

Let's face it Boro kids of the 70/80s did not play anything else but football so there were lots of talent in a concentrated area.

Biggest wastes for me were Kevin Horkan (low centre of gravity) and strong as an ox.

Ste Bell was a waste too though to an extent he made it, in a way.

Not if you went to school at the Sacred Heart in Redcar, PE teacher was rugby obsessed Welsh man. Only reason I got games was because the better players were forced to play rugby.
