Too many people on here completely incapable of objective thought.  Everything has to be framed in this false lefty/righty narrative. FFS Stephen Baker, from as far right as you can get in the conservative party has called for Cummings to go.

I personally can't get het up about it. As much as i think Boris is a hopeless twat and Cummings is a lying twat who pulls his strings im not bothered about this. He bent the rules but we all have a bit im sure, they put these guidelines out in the hope most people follow them most of the time. The odd transgression shouldn't be a sacking offence.

That's way too sensible....

They are all scoundrels of the first order

The bbc and Starmer have whinged incessantly about government guidelines, constantly saying they’re unclear and people can’t follow them. Now all of a sudden, the guidelines are clear in black and white and Cummings should be held accountable for not following simple instructions. Starmer’s not playing party politics during an international crisis, obviously.

Starmer said if he were PM he'd have sacked Cummings. Perhaps Starmer could offer a demonstration of no-compromising tough man act and suspend the Labour MPs caught disregarding the lockdown rules seeing as he feels so aggrieved at this violation.

Doubtful though. It's never been about Cummings scooting off to Durham, more so about trying to oust him from his position and proclaiming it as some sort of victory.

Correct - or numerous other transgressions labour MPs could be sacked for

Well done BORIS  tell the media to feck off. I suspect Cummings sitings will start popping up all over the North East. You never know he might have been spotted in Boro, the Coronavirus capital of the U.K. " You are Dominic Cummings and I claim my £5". Has Dom been responsible for the north east being one of the worst areas for the virus? Just wait until the media hyenas think that one up.

So you support the fact he can do whatever the hell he likes and openly flout the laws while we have our freedoms eroded and our livelihoods destroyed?

Do you really agree with one law for politicians and a different one for us?

Have you stopped to consider what Johnson said yesterday? He used the phrase" the right kind of childcare".
I take this to mean that it is possible that Cumming's four year old son is autistic. There have been reports that this is the case. However, you like the rest of the baying mob just scent blood and won't let reasoned argument get in the way. As far as I can see Cummings was attempting to do the best for his child. This provision is within the regulations. As far as I can see he followed the rules and didn't break any laws. If it turns out that this four year old does have special needs ,then any self respecting parent would have wanted him near to someone who could relate to him ,should both parents fall very ill with the virus. Perhaps they should have made arrangements to have him taken into care. This Cummings business seems to have brought out a particularly nasty streak in some people.

I've considered what Johnson said very carefully and if you wonder why people are getting nasty over it, then you should take your blinkers off. We've been locked down for weeks and this Cummings character who write the rules goes and openly flouts them. If that's not enough to piss people off, I don't know what is.

It's got nothing to do with childcare - that's a crappy bullshitty excuse and I'm shocked you can't see through it. Go and read some facts about it. Your great leaders are taking the piss out of you, big style.

He's making a statement later this afternoon and he absolutely has to resign. You simply cannot flout the law the way he has.

On a brighter note, it proves this whole virus thing is a total scam, lockdown was not necessary because there is no real danger.

Even the cops are turning against him now because the law is now unenforceable.

Cummings doesn't write the rules at all, he may advise on how the rules are presented.
The rules allowed for him to do what he did, others have done similarly. The reaction to this is farcical and I'm delighted that Boris has shown two fingers to the press on it.

He’s not elected so why do the public think they have a say in whether he is sacked or not? It’s baffling.

I think most of the loud voices just dislike him for absolutely dismantling Corbyn and co in the last election.

Certainly think it's much more than that. The London political and media cliques don't like him because he hasn't hid the disdain he has for them, so the Tory backbench MPs have sought to undermine him at every opportunity and the media have camped photographers and journos outside his home pretty much permanently since last July as well constantly publishing stories about things like dismissing the deaths of many people in order to protect the economy etc.

He was lying through his teeth in that interview yesterday - it was obvious from his body language.

14,000 people got fined for breaking the lockdown rules, people couldn't have proper funerals, couldn't visit elderly parents and relatives.

This is nothing to do with party politics or left and right - this is a top level exec who brazenly broke the rules that have done a lot of damage to the general population.

It's not acceptable at all, and I'm one of those who applauded the battering of Corbyn last December.

If you cut through all the shit being spouted by the press you either believe he did wrong or you don't, it depends on your interpretation of what is "reasonable". I have no problem whatsoever with what he did, but I'm a very reasonable man.

He doesn't hold public office and it is only up to his employers to either condone his actions or punish him in some way if they feel it was wrong. Fuck all to do with anybody else, so the shite press can carry on being outraged.

Bringing in a fucking great big screen to boom out lock down advice from Boris on a loop outside his house! Of course this is political.

Perhaps if you read the rules you might understand he hasn't broken any......so has nothing to apologise for nor resign over....... loads of North East expats returned to the NE with their kids during that time period...... the rest of your post is typical of a London Centric left wing media type who lost touch with his roots along time ago..... step out of your rented east end hovel and return north Goldby!

It's absolutely the business of everyone who has suffered from these ridiculous and unnecessary lockdown rules.

It's the business of everyone whose livelihood has suffered, everyone who has experienced a reduced quality of life and everyone who has lost a job, a business and had to downscale.

You're talking like a lazy socialist who wants his government to do his thinking for him.

Do you want people in charge of you who do exactly the opposite of what they order you to do?

I'll tell you something else, they can fuck off with these lockdown rules now. Cummings completely invalidated them.

Go oiut as much as you like, do whatever you want and if you get pulled over by the cops, just tell them you are testing your eyes.

I hope this government is brought down over this because it damn well deserves to be.

Totally ridiculous thing to say. What proof have you? Oh yes " you reckon". Cummings made a judgement that is acceptable within the guidelines. He broke no laws and no rules. He did what every right minded parent would do in the same situation. I certainly would have done the same thing in those circumsrptances. By the wY Steve ,are you a parent?

He was lying through his teeth in that interview yesterday - it was obvious from his body language.

14,000 people got fined for breaking the lockdown rules, people couldn't have proper funerals, couldn't visit elderly parents and relatives.

This is nothing to do with party politics or left and right - this is a top level exec who brazenly broke the rules that have done a lot of damage to the general population.

It's not acceptable at all, and I'm one of those who applauded the battering of Corbyn last December.

So fine him and let’s get in with it.

It’s no-one’s business whether he is fired or not

Well said

What is achieved by sacking him anyway? Wouldn’t even temporarily satiate the rabid bloodlust of the left and the MSM. Nothing to be gained from it.

Ridiculous

If you want the government brought down over this be prepared for changing governments more often than you change your socks. It’s a storm in a teacup and seems you’ve been whipped up by the media frenzy. I’m surprised at a man of your age and apparent life experience that you’ve over reacted so much.

Resign or be sacked.
Regardless of this he appears to have far too much influence for an unelected official

I reckon he's got a lot of dirt on Johnson, which is why he won't sack him.

It has been said that asking Boris to sack Cummings is like asking Emu to sack Rod Hull

Sacked for what?

He only took his wife and autistic kid somewhere he could get childcare if him and his wife got too sick to look after him. It's called being a good parent.
