I think Jezza should have stepped aside for this election and a less divisive candidate take over, Keir Starmer would be my choice, very clever and seems to be respected across all parties, but I’m not really sure any party really wants to win this election, a clear majority for any party will leave them taking the heat for the inevitable mess brexit will be.

A unified national fibre-optic network would be of massive benefit to the country. Other countries had them more than 10 years ago, the UK market has failed to create it

BT fibre-optic network is poor quality it is mostly just fibre to the premises from existing copper wires at the junction. A joke compared to an actual full fibre-optic national network

Don't expect many of you will understand much of that :alf:

BTs CEO says Labours plan would cost FIVE TIMES what labour said it would.

No surprise, they had Dianne Abbot costing it up.

Well I'm sure he's not biased souey

The benefits would far outweigh the cost. It would turbo-charge small businesses, education and public services to have free genuinely super-fast broadband that was 100% fibre-optic

With fibre-optic all the way,  it costs the same to send data 100 yards as it does to send it 10,000 miles away i.e there is no additional marginal cost based on distance. BT has failed to deliver

Well as CEO of a massive company like BT with HQ based in London, what are the chances he's a Tory? Quite high...

Also the share-holders own BT, he just works for it

And as it is the company he works for that have failed to deliver a national fibre-optic network and will have part of it nationalised, he is going to be negative about someone else delivering it, because it reflects badly on him and he surrenders part of BT as a result of that failure

So he isn't going to be unbiased with regard to Labour's proposal is he?

Yeah, let’s have buildings full of books in every town in the country where everyone can go and take books for free. And then when they’ve read them, they can take them back and swap them for more free books!

what have libraries (which I love) that got to do with enforced nationalisation, lot of pensions are tied up in those companies, unless you pay market price you'll crash the shares and joe soap suffers.Marxism is  so last century dahlings, that's why comrade corbyn, fat abbot and old McDonald have no mainstream appeal,
certainly hammer the inept fat cats, don't stifle wealth creation, not all bosses are cunts.

Nor are Labour themselves.

You've obviously decided to pigeonhole the man and discredit his claims assuming he must be a Tory for daring to suggest McDonnell's sums are widely inaccurate. What a clown you are.

And if Labour want to be ambitious, they should look at investing in wireless infrastructure rather than a tech which in 10 years time will be likely second best.

Well one thing anyone who possess more than a walnut between their ears will understand is that this desperate electioneering gimmick certainly won't be "free".

Then again, the socialist nearly pulled it off with their 'write off student debt' horseshit in 2017 so who knows how many of the nations terminally thick they can reel-in this time?

Benefits require investment it's simple economics.

Also very simple economics is Monopolies are bad and fleece the consumer. BT has a monopoly position over the telecommunications infrastructure and that is why we have the current poor service of copper wire broadband with a bit of fibre-optic from the box to people's homes

We can have a better more prosperous country by spending the money in the right way. Austerity has been a disaster I struggle to understand how any working class person from Teesside could be against austerity but vote for the party that enforced it on the worst off
