On here we have arguments about right and left but I believe we all want the same thing. Some prosperity to Teesside. Looking at the representatives we have for that now isn't good. Labour is lost, new labor fked us over. the millennial left in Antifa are deluded. where does good cod heads go from here politically. there is no one left to support?

Probably looking to a politically savy homegrown independent.
The trouble is whether we like it or not party politics have a strangle hold on the system.  It's probably difficult to negotiate a better deal for the town if are a lone voice in the halls of power

What I don't understand is how anyone from Teesside could be pro EU.

The EU Carbon Credit scam is what shutdown the steel plant at Redcar. The plant was profitable and made some of the best steel in the world. But the corrupt EU in collaboration with Chinese steel makers ensured that it would be closed down and production moved to second rate Indian plants.

Not that it matters, you could put a red rosette on a turd and it would get elected in Middlesbrough, quite often that's exactly what happens.
Why would a Tory central government invest in an area like Teesside when doing so will provide no value at the ballot box come the next election? Better to invest in the marginals or central London (as that is where all the politicians live anyway).

Cameron and George Osbourne also lined their pockets on the back of this murky affair from the Chinese. The EU has Luxembourg, Germany and Italy have nationalised -subsidied steelmaking production. Why we as a nation didn’t do more is criminal. These two cunts are not unique, they’re all bent in Westminster

The plant was not making a profit monkey where on earth do these stories come from. Willie is right about us taking it up the arse from the EU. The government should have fucked them and the Thais off but didn’t give a fuck. Nor did Vera Byrd when she was in Redcar when it was mothballed.

We’ve been here before :alf: the EU told the Tory government that they couldn’t intervene and bail Redcar out so they wouldn't or hid behind the rule. They also told the Italians and french the same who told them to fuck off. Their plants remain open. I live in Teesside, far from a shithole in my opinion.

I'd rather be fucked over by one bent cunt than two. Get out of the bent EU then work on the bent cunts in Westminster. You never know, labour might even have gotten their act together soon after to warrant a vote from us 'white, knuckle-dragging gammoners'

More phallacy. SSI was not profit making, it was haemorrhaging money. The Thais did not due their due diligence properly, the overpaid for a plant that only the rust was holding together so it was costing them a fortune to re-energise and get up to speed.  Even the money they invested in the new PFI was wasted, the construction was massively mismanaged

Seriously, the left wing mouthpieces on here.

"the plant wasn't making a profit"

No, not with the carbon credit scam which made it practically impossible for them to produce steel at the same price as plants outside of the EU. Remove the carbon credits and the plant would likely still be open today.

"the EU told the Tory government that they couldn’t intervene and bail Redcar out"

While simultaneously allowing cheap, tariff free imports of steel from India and China. No doubt the lobbyists in Brussels were paid a fat stack for that little nugget.

And you fruitcake lefties wonder why Teesside voted 66.2% leave.

Which bit was rubbish?

The fact the plant would have been profitable without the insane carbon credits imposed by the EU?

The fact the EU allowed the market to be flooded with cheap, tariff free Chinese and Indian imports from plants unburdened with their carbon tax?

"The final trigger for British Steel’s collapse into administration, however, was not low steel prices but arguably a demand from the EU for £120 million worth of payments under its Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) – which is supposed to provide an incentive for heavy polluters to cut their carbon emissions."

It was SSI. You said it was making a profit. Absolutely clueless.

I know what it was, I was highlighting the problem for you as you seem to be hard of thinking.

The Redcar plant would still be open today if it wasn't for the EU's insane carbon tax scam. 2200 jobs lost on Teesside thanks to the political outfit you're acting as a cheerleader for.

How do you go from argumentative old socialist to cheering on the global elite? Your cap is truly doffed.

Teesside gets the 3rd highest amount of funding from the EU in the UK [European Structural and Investment Fund]. Only Cornwall and Wales get more than us, for Local Enterprise projects

Anyone who thinks the Tories will replace that money after Brexit wants their head looking at. Middlesbrough centre will be almost completely dependent on Teesside University for jobs and incoming money. But TU relies on the EU for 76% of its competitive research funding, so...

Suggesting no one from our area has any reason to want to stay in the EU is pure ignorance. Brexit will be a disaster for Middlesbrough in the short-term. Beyond that, who knows? I won't be holding my breath waiting for the Tories to replace the lost investment though

Mr Downing your point is based on the present situation but I believe the present situation is why we are discussing the point. Why have we arrived at the situation to rely on scraps from the service sector. My point is to fk a few quid from the university and have mass prosperity based on real value

So they shut down major manufacturing putting thousands off work but give you peanuts for shitty arts and culture projects? Put a few pennies into valueless research projects?

Get that cap doffed, Please Herr Juncker, can we have a million for another pointless modern art gallery while we have 10% unemployment because sold us out to Chineses lobbyists.

Anyone who thinks the Tories will replace that money after Brexit wants their head looking at.

No and rightly so. Why should entral government pay for local government vanity projects. You want investment you should be creating value through business.

Middlesbrough centre will be almost completely dependent on Teesside University for jobs and incoming money. But TU relies on the EU for 76% of its competitive research funding, so...

Competitive research? That's called charity.  What field of scientific research is Teesside University in the top 10 for? Calling it competitive is like calling the EU democratic.

Suggesting no one from our area has any reason to want to stay in the EU is pure ignorance. Brexit will be a disaster for Middlesbrough in the short-term. Beyond that, who knows? I won't be holding my breath waiting for the Tories to replace the lost investment though

Being in the EU was a disaster for Middlesbrough and Teesside anyway.
The EU facilitated the closing of the SSI plant and continue to put industry at risk in the area with their corrupt and moronic carbon credit scheme.

Yes how silly of me. I should have instead discussed an imaginary situation from the future. Anyway, how are we going to have genuine prosperity based on real value when there is nothing left here BUT the university?

There is no manufacturing or core industry left to create a local service sector around. There is fuck all and once the EU funding goes there will be less than that klins
