Sorry Duran for your loss. Being a dog or pet person is hard when you lose them. It is never easy, as they are basically family when you break it down. Chin up bud, and remember that you gave that dog a decent life.

Unlucky mate. Been there and done it, not a pleasant experience. I felt worse than I did for two of my grand parents, due to the day to day contact with them. They’re a big part of some families and it takes ages to get used to them not being there.

It’s heartbreaking. My advice is hold off for a few months before replacing a pet.  :like:

I am 43 and know four family pet dogs, each one was a devastating loss. My last one was a couple of years ago and I won’t get another because of it. Like someone said, reminisce about the good times.

Sorry for your loss matey. I had to give my two cockatiels away before leaving Korea as bringing them wasn't possible due to bird flu on the peninsula.

Broke my heart and I'll never get over losing them as I had them since they were babies.

I brought my dog with me and she's all I have left from of my family.

She's coping well in England but still clingy as she's had so much upheaval.

Tough times. We lost our last one 11 years ago in a nasty accident and we said we’d wait a year before getting a new one. As you say, house felt empty and we lasted six weeks and got the next one from Dogs Trust. Got another a year later from different rescue centre and they’re both 11 now. Starting to show signs of age and not looking forward to the inevitable decision time. I’d say leave it a couple of months and start again. You can offer a good life to a needy dog and unfortunately there’s are too many of them

Animals trust us 100% and don’t understand things like illnesses, death or being moved to a new family. That’s why it’s so upsetting.

My boy cockatiel called ‘daddy’ as they put him in the car and I walked away. Heartbreaking to the extreme.

I've been there, done and got the rainbow bridge t-shirts.

It's hard losing a dog. I was more emotional losing my dog than i was when a family member died.

I've got 4 golden retrievers, they are my life, they are with me constantly.

I dread the day in the future.

Their love is unconditional. They're with you through thick and thin.
We had 3 mongrel terriers and had to have one put to sleep a month ago.
Heartbreaking. She was just very old and very confused.
We had it done at home and the vet said it's better the other two dogs see the one that's just died straight after.
We have a bit of land and I buried her under an oak tree. The other two know where she is.

That's a cat . They have no loyalty at all.

Dogs are different. One slept on his owners grave for over 3 weeks when the bloke died.  another stood over the body of its owner for weeks when he dropped dead out in the hills . treat a dog right it will give its life for you. a cat would be out the window and gone if out kicked off at home.

I'd wait a few weeks or so before getting another one (which i would do).

Let this sink in first to avoid feeling disloyal.

Thanks again lads for the comments ,bit of a downer today , my sons been hit hard and struggling ,not surprising really as the dog had been here every day of his life !

I remember when my son was a few months old ,we had him laid on the floor on his mat ,and the dog laid down head to head with my son and wouldn't let anyone but me near them ,growling like fuck at his mother , and from that day until his death my son could do whatever he liked with that dog ,and he never once showed any signs of aggression towards my son !!

Don't tell me dogs don't love
