I was looking at getting a cheap LG, what's garbage about them? I just want one that loads Netflix and the like up relatively quickly/smoothly, only paying £300-£400

Why don't you get the app? Because something else turns up regularly that you can plug in and get more and better stuff.

That’s like the early days of pirate films on dvd, the £20 DVD players from Asda played them perfectly, The big brands wouldn’t That reminds me of the pioneer dvd/video combo player I bought from msv or summit like that down portrack lane, was £399 The £20 ones were better My eldest son still has it, and watches the old videos I’d taped for him when he was a child with his kids. He’d not swap them videos for the blueray versions now

Bought and installed a new TV last night, woman arrives home, here's me proud as punch and thinking it probably qualifies me for at least an extra BJ. First thing out of her mouth, not my tumescent pole as one would expect, no, it was "it's too big". It's the size you picked you utter twat. Measured it out, drew the fucking shape on the wall and everthing. Kvinnfolk, bastards the lot of them. She thinks I'm taking it back, imagine the shame of walking in the TV shop and handing it over "Mrs says it's too big". Not on my watch, she can pack and carry the fucker herself if she wants to change it.

To be fair, I never saw the obsession with massive TVs . A TV should compliment a room and not dominate it I guess it's because we don't use it was a focal point.

Some of the Sony Bravia's have an Android OS, so you can add any app to it. Not sure of how fast it runs yet, ill have to do more research before i part with my cash.

I would. Speed seems to be a problem with smart TV. I think they scrimp on memory. Would explain the crashes. Give it a run in store. Try opening loads of apps one after the other, check out can cope.

The speed Newtflix loads at (and how well it runs) is governed by the broadband strength and how you access it via TV.
I have Virgin TV and was getting the same problems as ST and they replaced the box with a new model and its infinitely faster
(well not actually infinitely but you know what I mean!)

Have Samsung - it's alright. Decent picture, does YouTube, ITV hub, iplayer and shit. I can mirror from my phone (if I really want to but why?) Netflix works - only problem is that most of the films on it are shite.

Up to a point yes. The speed it loads the stream at is dependant mainly on broadband speed. However the speed it loads the app and all the smart services is dependant on the processor and the memory the telly has. Once mine gets going it a fine but loading apps and switching between say Amazon video and Netflix is painfully slow. That's to do with tv hardware. Which is why I recommend stress testing the tv in the shop. Open loads of apps quickly, see if it can cope.

Yeah I’ve tried all that, connected to 5ghz channel. It’s not broadband speed at all. It’s the general speed of the computer that runs it. It’s painfully slow. Can’t find any details about what’s powering it but my guess is it’s seriously lacking in RAM.

When I am moving from app to app it seems fairly quick to change over. If I am on Youtube and flick over to Netflix or Plex it is up and running in maybe 5 seconds. It plays Netflix 4K flawlessly. On the odd occasion I use Plex, that streams content OK. Youtube works great. Even the odd 4K content that I watch is fine too. The Android Box is the only thing that runs a bit iffy. That is just due to the sources though.
I will say though, the TV does freeze/crash occasionally.
I got in fairly early on the 4K carry on so no doubt as we get further into it the kit will get better.
