I heard Cornwall is very popular. Sister and Brother-in-law goes most years.
Cornwall could be on cards too if we can't travel abroad.
Maybe head north first then south.
Haven't planned anything yet just sorted the hire.
We've never been to Cornwall or Wales and fancied that big zip wire in Wales last year. So I'll see if I can fit both in. Maybe too much to do NC500 and that in 14 nights.
The NC might take 10 days at a nice pace. I need to look it all up.

It rains a lot in Scotland. Head south, and rent the motor home from somewhere close to where you are touring.
I thought about that this time.
Pick up in Belgium.
However due to the covids Europe may be off limits when we due to go.
Last October hols they all were booked up so I have a feeling a lot of vans will be booked this summer by February time so had to act fast to a least have something to look forward to. Will only lose crossing fees if goes wrong,  but at last look eurotunnel were flexible on even standard tickets last year due to the covid.
So we kept it localish so we can head north or south as the situation permits.

We not end hiring. Iíve been through the temptation to splash 50k stage. Those prices are about right  quoted about £1400 for ten nights

I choose these as they appear to have a bit more baxk up.
We hired one originally years back from a smaller company and the van was smashed up in France 2 days before we were supposed to pick up. She sadly couldn't fulfill our booking.
Seekers helped us out. So be sure the hirer can fulfill if something goes wrong on the booking before you.

We've booked 'Bruce ' for 2 weeks in summer for Europe.
Will refund insurance she said if covid interrupts our plans.
Preliminary route is South Germany via Belgium then into Switzerland Interlaken area then Annecy area of France.
But will do NC 500 and Isles if we can't.
I've done France in one before and it was ok to drive.

If you get one with a big roof light they obviously feel more airy so a 2 birth may do as long as the lay out suits.
I'd hire one first though.
On my morning dog walk we pass 2 on driveways.
They've hardly moved this year.
Both probably over 50k worth. Look like 4 and 6 birth under 2 year old. Bit of a waste just sat there. Put us off buying one tbh.
Can't recall hire cost for us but euro insurance is 150 pw
1k deposit.  I think it was 150 per night in summer.
It's not a cheap outlay but still will work out cheaper than buying and have it sat there 48 weeks of the year.
7  ComeOnBoro.com / ComeOnBoro.com Message Board / Re: Camper vans on: December 30, 2020, 11:18:01 AM
Scotland is better than England for MH's.

You have far more places to go wilding without being hassled and the local councils don't harass you like the English cunts do

You don't need to go up to the Highlands to get away from it all - try the Dumfries and Galloway region and the west coast there. We have amazing memories of wilding in the Dark Forest area watching Red Kites and listening to the Stags bellowing out over the hills. Magic

North Devon and Wales is a good area for vanning

What size are you thinking of getting?

Not a bad idea to hire one for a weekend though just to see if you are suited and give you a better idea of size you need.

Try and keep it is small as you can put up with but don't overdo it especially if you have plans to take a dog/kids/grandkids etc it can very quickly get claustrophobic and uncomfortable especially if you are all soaked through.

I wouldn't bother with the Caravan Club they are all snooty fuckers and there are plenty of good sites that you can just roll up though its better to book ahead especially in Summer

Winter trips are the best as the modern vans are super warm (make sure you get a three way heating system tho) and there are less fucking idiots about

Be prepared for it to cost a fortune to buy but they do hold the value

Note Continental built vans have the door on the right hand side which means you step out into traffic if you are parked up road side whereas Brit conversions are the other side

Enjoy
Agree about the claustrophobia.
We have hired a 6 birth both times for 4.

Aye Bob. Done it once before and have booked one for a fortnight next year.
We have used Seekers both times.
Gill she is called, nice lass.
All good gear and you get deposit back straight away.
They are near Leeming bar.  You can get access from Scotch corner now as before you had to double back.
You can also store your car in their barn.
All secure.

What did you mean then ? :pd:

That you can take part in an activity, ride a bike, have a kick-about etc. without dressing in the full Team Ineos lycra outfit or the full Real Madrid strip.
Nobody, except you, said anything about wearing jeans for everything (I don't even own a replica shirt btw).

When people just going for a bike ride dress in the full kit they look like dick heads and deserve ridicule, in the same way that a few lads kicking a ball about in the park would ridicule the bloke who turns up in full home strip complete with socks and fluorescent green boots.

I'm not singling out cyclists, there are those in the motorbike fraternity who turn up at Squires for a quick coffee after work in a full race rep one piece leather suit with knee and elbow sliders. They have usually taken a grinder to their sliders to achieve the full "knee down" look. Everyone else who sees them is thinking of exactly the same word at the same time, and it ends in ..anker.

The "I have to wear it because of the wind effect" thing is horse shit. There are plenty of options of clothing, both tops and shorts, that would be suitable - your not at the Olympics, that extra 3 seconds doesn't fucking matter.

There are options for the bikers too, proper biker jeans and a decent synthetic jacket - no logos, no advertising, no sponsorship etc.

Now, if you've entered the Tour de Yorkshire,or you've been given a contract by Team Katusha Alpecin  then I would expect and accept that you need to wear the full kit, until then get rid of the race suit, people are less likely to call you a cunt and want to knock you off your bike.

Be safe.

There's full kit wanker and cycle kit.
You don't have to wear it for the wind effect.
But if you do it makes the ride easier so you can go further or faster. Have you tried riding into a head wind with a baggy jacket on? It's like a sail, it fills with air, ive been blown to a standstill turning a corner into wind and jacket just filled with air like an airbag going off.
I dont laugh at even fatties wearing tight kit, I think people look dafter without it on a bike.
Plus, why would you spend decent cash on a bike then throw about 40 watts in the gutter wearing shit kit.
Its like buying decent footy boots to kick a can around.

Not often no, but I'll have a kick-about in a pair of jeans because I'm not Kevin De Bruyne and it's not the Premier League, like you're not Chris Froome and it's not the Tour de fucking France.

So all cyclists should wear jeans? And all 5 a side lads too? What about wearing jeans for golf? Or cricket? So all amateurs should just wear jeans and samba whatever sport they choose?

There is a lot of bike snobbery about.

These cunts from Cleveland Wheelers and Godley crews etc give cyclists a bad name in our area. I know quite a few and basically they are an accident waiting to happen and take competition a step too far.

I am an 18mph average cyclist over long distances - not bad for a 50+ bloke. Do hills too including all the twats in the moors.

Have basic gear and a decent bike, and extremely courteous on the road with drivers and other cyclists.
Decent avg. Takes a lot of work to get 18 over a decent distance
 ride.

I'm a fairly keen cyclist and I have never felt the need to deck myself out in lycra like an arsehole. Padded shorts is more than enough
Depends on how far you're going and who with and at what pace.
I find it easier in proper cycle clothing.  Wind just zips over you.
If you're holding 23 to 25mph on a straight the wind clings to you with a normal t shirt on.
Also where do you keep your inner tube and bits?  You need a back pocket or an under saddle bag. I prefer back pockets.
Kit in left. Phone in middle,  mints and food in right.

I generally go by myself and just do what pace suits me, I take a backpack and generally combine a road cycle with a walk up the hills. I'll cycle to Ayton, or Guisy or Broughton and walk up the hills from there the cycle home

If you're tootling about i agree.
I prefer a slow cycle out, but I've got rides planned with decent riders so I have to at least be able to avg 17mph over 50 mile.
Its a hard leap to make. I just simply couldn't do that without lighter aero kit.
Edit, plus comfort. Dont tell me about chaffing and ripped shorts wearing the wrong kit. Been there. If you're comfortable you're head gets in the right place too for longer rides.

The one I have bought is basically an off-road "gravity" / enduro type bike.
There is no option to have electric power without pedalling and there are various degrees of assistance.
The idea, as I understand it, is the downhill loons waste too much time cycling back up the hills and these bikes allow them to get twice as many runs in by cutting down on time (and energy used) on the climbs.

My knees are shot so this will allow me to get out and hoon around the local woods and tracks for a bit of fun, and a bit of extra exercise.

Sorry I missed this, basically what my mate said. They're ideal .
Basically like a ski lift pass or not when skiing Lol

Depends what you want it for.
Work were going to do the Hamsterley forest thing.
Lad who is a very very decent cyclist *just done 100 miles at 21.3mph at weekend and is in a local team recommended the e bike for that day out.
He said its all about the down hill, he said its a pain climbing back to start so best off hiring the e bike.
Get more fun and runs.
So for me if you're going to do the moors and proper hills and off road then yes certainly.  If you're just tapping round the woods and is relatively flat then pointless.
Just up your fitness a bit and save a packet.
I'd get one for doing say the cleveland way and all the local runs. Be ace.
