Busy day Bob?

Bob misses the point as usual and flies off on his own agenda. He asked earlier for a solution. I gave him one. As stated I’m not an expert, but experts do have a similar idea to that which I stated. Bob doesn’t like me idea and doesn’t think it could work, because it’s too hard to implement. This seems contrary toBibs earlier expressed opinion that he wants to rip up personal tax rules as they stand, he’d be happy to attempt that (however hard) but wouldn’t attempt something radical in corporation tax.

It wouldn’t be imposing different rules on foreign companies, it would be a standard law regarding location of profit for the purposes of taxation, with limitations on how much they can write off against British operations for costs expended in other areas, which lowers said profit.

I’m done with Bob, he’s clearly an expert in everything. The idea simply is; tax profits where they are made, introduce rules regarding how much offset can be made against profit in each location. Any change would be extremely difficult to implement, but once up and running it would be no harder to manage than the current minefield, or does Bob think the current system is adequate and doesn’t need changing? Maybe Bob can give us an idea since he’s a genius and knows everything? Or maybe he will resort to bane calling as usual.

Right, spent some time reading that. Talk about pie in the sky bullshit. Destination based taxation can only work if you have coherent laws in each possible destination. As tax laws between individual countries can't be aligned what chance between competing economies? None.

So, this proposal would only work under a one world government. Or within a specific trading block such as the EU. As our biggest tax avoiders are none EU corporations it doesn't seem like this is much of a proposal.

But at least you could Google a potential solution which is more than Dr Gobshyte or MadDog who just snipe from the cheap seats.

Well I'm sure he's not biased souey

The benefits would far outweigh the cost. It would turbo-charge small businesses, education and public services to have free genuinely super-fast broadband that was 100% fibre-optic

With fibre-optic all the way,  it costs the same to send data 100 yards as it does to send it 10,000 miles away i.e there is no additional marginal cost based on distance. BT has failed to deliver

I suppose the owner of something has some input into that things sales price.
Like if I told you your house was worth £10k.

A unified national fibre-optic network would be of massive benefit to the country. Other countries had them more than 10 years ago, the UK market has failed to create it

BT fibre-optic network is poor quality it is mostly just fibre to the premises from existing copper wires at the junction. A joke compared to an actual full fibre-optic national network

Don't expect many of you will understand much of that :alf:

BTs CEO says Labours plan would cost FIVE TIMES what labour said it would.

No surprise, they had Dianne Abbot costing it up.

I’ll add tax expert to your list of skills then.

I wouldn't describe myself as a tax expert but I clearly understand it a shit load better than you.

They are not treated as total individual entities, hence why they can funnel money overseas to lower tax jurisdictions and claim spurious costs of operating in the uk

Hold up, are you genuinely so stupid you think British laws can be applied to companies in other countries?

Starbucks UK is a British company, with a British board of directors. It can source its products however it likes and it can finance those purchases however it likes. Suggesting that we can someone write laws for individual companies is frankly ridiculous. By the time the law got to Parliament the legal entity named would have simply changed.

I said they should only be allowed to charge reasonable costs only to Uk related operations. Where costs are obviously spurious they should be discounted and profit unaffected.

So the British government should write laws that apply to foreign companies which dictate what price they can sell us goods at?  Imagine writing that, an individual law for every product ever imagined and all new products plus an associated "fair" price that the government sets. Then imagine the cost of implementing such a fucking hair brained scheme.

I'll say this for you leftists, you're financial incompetence genuinely knows no bounds.

Why would it be disastrous? Do you think they would stop operating in the Uk if they have to pay more tax related to profits? They’d give up all the profit? Is it more disastrous than avoiding corporation tax and effectively removing money from a country and holding it in offshore cash mountains that benefit nobody except the 0.1%?

No, by the time any such ridiculous law was passed those companies would have an army of tax lawyers finding every single loop-hole, work around and trick to manipulate the system. In fact big corporations LOVE excessive tax laws as they only inhibit smaller competition from taking market share. Why do you think they lobby the EU for legislation so much?

The only one indoctrinated is you. On one hand you claim you want to rip up taxation rules because nobody has the right to your salary etc, but on the other hand you want to maintain a grossly abused business tax asksituation.

If I want to rip up the tax system how do I want to maintain it? Fantastic job contradicting yourself there, classic.

I do want reform of the tax system, 10% all round and capped. Companies who avoid/evade named and shamed. Its up to the people to take action, stop looking to the government to fix all of our problems.

I didn’t make it an issue of left vs right. All governments have been equally bad to date. Like I said the only thing stopping tax reform is the government(s) and their paymasters.

You have literally no idea how government works, how HMRC works or how businesses work.

Ask Bob End to give you a short lesson in corporate tax laws.

I’m no expert, but the idea I have is a common one amongst people who are. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t possible.

Your idea? Create a law for every product and/or company that does or could sell to British companies? Dictate which products they can sell and the price the must sell at, that idea?

Despite the fact it would take an infinite amount of time to write and would never get even the remotest amount of support from any of the major political parties, yeah fantastic idea.

19  ComeOnBoro.com / ComeOnBoro.com Message Board / Re: If you care about corporations paying their taxes on: November 15, 2019, 08:39:42 AM
Treat every multinational as individual entities in the countries they operate and tax them on sales/costs/profit at end point of sale, ie. the country in which they operate. You will never avoid avoidance fully, because they can still carry out their tax planning, but they won't be able to control it fully like they do now, since sales in any forthcoming year can only be guessed/estimated at best.

So if they sell 10bn worth of goods in the UK and earn 2bn profit, they are taxed on the 2bn profit in the UK, profit calculated can be after the reasonable operational costs they incur in regional/world centres related to operations in the UK (product development, central services, management etc). Burden of proof should be on the companies to prove the costs can reasonably be related to the UK and indeed benefit the UK, until agreement can be made they should pay max tax and any rebate on disputed amounts held until agreement can be made on the correct tax value. Things such as investing in dummy corps or "vanishing subsidiaries" should not be deductible.

The only thing stopping real tax reform is the lack of desire from governments and the ones pulling the strings, usually businessmen and/or the rich (those with most to lose).

You have no idea how the tax system works or how multinationals get around tax legislation. All multinationals are treated as individual entities.

Take Starbucks as an example. Starbucks UK is a British company, each of its cafes are franchises and each it's own UK company.

Starbucks UK buys coffee from Starbucks US at £6 a bag and sells that onto its franchises at £4 a bag meaning it makes no profit, ever. It operates at a loss which are covered by loans which are made to it by Starbucks US.

Tax legislation cannot dictate to a business how it should be run, any attemp to do so would be disastrous to the British economy.

If you think government are happy with this situation you are deluding yourself. I know you've been sold leftist propaganda, that it's the evil tories that allow this but remember the same tax laws have been in existence under the previous Labour government too.

It's the general public's responsibility to take action and if we are collectively to lazy or stupid to do so then too bad.

Britain is absolutely backwards in the way it manages its water. The EA is massively underfunded and the now privatised water boards who look after our storm water drainage are more interested in shareholder dividends than adding new capacity to the network.

Massive infrastructure spending is required, get the Dutch to do it. Swathes of their country is below sea level but they know how to manage flood waters

So we didn't have floods when the water companies were ran by the state?

Massive infrastructure spending is required? Perhaps if we didn't have to build homes on flood plains because of YOUR open door immigration policies the problem wouldn't be half as bad.

Immigration is the biggest problem this country has today, every single left wing talking point is caused by it but you deliberately ignore the root cause to push communist propoganda.

NHS waiting lists - IMMIGRATION
Lack of social housing - IMMIGRATION
Lack of school places - IMMIGRATION
Can't see a GP - IMMIGRATION
Low or stagnant wages - IMMIGRATION
Lack of public transport - IMMIGRATION
Congested roads - IMMIGRATION

We technically could not build infrastructure fast enough to meet the demand of half a million immigrants a year coming into this country therefore it ALWAYS serves to reduce the quality of life for British working class people.

But clearly I'm just a racist despite the fact I don't give a fuck of the race of the immigrant as it makes fucking zero difference to the problem.

Exactly what percentage of someone's monthly salary do you think is acceptable for the government to steal?

Depends what you get in return, that question is too simplistic.

No it isn't.

The correct answer is ZERO. Other people have ZERO fucking rights to your property, your labour or the fruits thereof.
To say the state has the right to your money is to say the state has the right to your labour, to say the state has the right to your labour is to say that you are a SLAVE of the state.

This isn't simplistic, its basic logic.

Maybe my assumption is wrong on what you meant, but it seems you believe that nobody should pay tax. How do you propose to pay for all the services?

The magical money tree you derided earlier?

Absolutely not. Indebting our children's children is one of the most cancerous acts of our society. The national debt is a disgrace, we have no great wars to pay for. Just a great desire for 'other people' to pay for our needs. And those other people will end up being our children and their children and in my view that makes us collectively parasitic cunts.
We've been brainwashed by the left to believe we have a RIGHT to service, a RIGHT to housing, a RIGHT to healthcare and the fact of the matter is these things are privileges not rights.

I wouldn't support a zero tax policy because that's way too radical, but a flat rate of 10% for individuals and corporations shouldn't be that difficult to implement.

"Magic Money Tree" - laughable RWNJ cliche. The tree is ok for the Tories to use to buy off the DUP or waste money on Brexit celebrations and No Deal planning. The tree is very much a reality then isn't it?

Renationalising all the rail and utilities companies would cost more than £1 trillion, where are you getting that money? Borrowing and tax - spending other people's money is all the left can do.

That's me done with this debate. You are full of cliches you probably get from The Sun. I notice you didn't deny you have extreme views or Aspergers. We will never agree on anything much so pointless continuing...

You're done because you have no facts to back up any claim you have made. You accuse me of cliches but you're the one throwing around Labour slogans.

Exactly what percentage of someone's monthly salary do you think is acceptable for the government to steal?

Bob - INCOME inequality in the UK and US is the highest it's ever been...

Got any data to back up this claim? Although even if it is true it's entirely irrelevant. Someone being rich doesn't make you poor. Your fundamental assumption is that wealth is only created by oppression and frankly nothing could be further from the truth.

As you are prone to extreme views (possibly due to Aspergers) you conflate all positions left of centre as pure Socialism which you also equate with Communism and Marxism

Well you can thank Messrs Lenin, Trotsky, Mao, Castro et al for that.
They all agreed the only goal of socialism is communism and history shows that's what it always devolves into.
The centre left is what is know as classic liberalism, you hate those people because they have a stoic viewpoint and believe in the free market.

I'm not an extremist of any kind, I'm more libertarian than anything but I suppose to someone from the far left anyone center of Dianne Abbot is a far right nazi.

Nobody is proposing a return to pure socialism in the UK. Labour policies are progressive and socially democratic in basis. The current Social Democracies in the Nordic countries are not resulting in totalitarianism, starvation or death they are resulting in record levels of happiness and well-being and lower inequality

Couple of points here, pretty much every hard line socialist regime started with that proposition. That's exactly what Chavez said in Venezuela. From the richest country in South America to thousands queuing at the Colombian border for food in less than a decade. Socialism always starts with questions about wealth equality and ends with questions like 'can we eat the zoo animals because we're starving'.

Again with the Nordic bullshit, which exact policies do you want us to copy? Renationalisation of our utilities, transportation and various other industries?

Which magical money tree are we cutting down to pay for that?

And we had nationalised rail, perhaps your too young to remember it was an unmitigated disaster.

And it is rapid advances in technology that are bringing about the increases in quality of life, not purely economics. Neo-liberal economics is taking us backwards by increasing inequality. It was dissatisfaction with Neo-liberal polices that led to the populist movement in the US and UK. Unfortunately that has been hijacked by right-wing extremists leading to a situation where people who were fed up with austerity are now voting for the people who created it souey

First of all it's good that you have now admitted that life has never been so good.
We've had this conversation before, the data shows that improvements in those metrics increase the more free the market in that country is. This is again, irrefutable.
