1  ComeOnBoro.com / ComeOnBoro.com Message Board / Re: Away Fans Memories of Clive Rd on: January 10, 2021, 01:06:18 AM
My biggest Clive road memory is being in the queue for the holgate turnstiles when we were playing Sunderland in the late 80's. Was busy as you could imagine and you just heard this approaching "we hate Boro". it was odd because it was the firs time i realised Sunderland people said Boro like Borra. Turned round to see the Mackem beer Belly meatheads already covered in blood (already battered once in yellow rose car park apparently), all full of fuck and pumping their fists goading the masses of Boro fans with the enthusiastic chant. There was a bit of a delay before some Boro gadgies thought "hang on yer cheeky cunts", and waded into them". Seriously must have been a 100 boro fans descended on those dozen or so Mackems and kicked hell outof them, i thought they were going to die.

Dont know what they were thinking but game as fuck

Spot on, I was 6 year old during the euphoria of Big Jack. I managed to get a squeeze. Many lads knew the family and knew the situation. Mark Proctor et al...it was all so Teesside and lovely. Strike forth 40 years...its a fucking multi cultural nightmare x

Not a bad performance for a struggling squad. Good run out for the fringe players and few games for the kids.

We were always in the game but it didn’t go our way.

Get the first teamers rested now.

Spot on mate, it was a good performance from a lot of kids, who for most of the game held their own. I get disgusted in the media reporting and commentary. We fielded a team of 50% kids away from home. If it wasn't for the Covid we would have battered them tonight. And yet people find something to bloody whinge about. We we're great, we held our own and lets move on. Up the bloody Boro xx

I got 15/2 on Betway, however it was a daft tenner heart bet for the kids tonight. Always knew we'd give them a game, its just can we maintain it and grab the winner

Im going to bed, stop worshipping people you had no recollection of,  ask the people thatr were there, and people who suffered at the hands of the St Lee. Its all bulllshit, and the people on the videos need to know better. People are making money out of a dead man, and claiming they knew him, and what a good bloke he was. If ya want to know how good a bloke he was, come and see me, and ask my Mother.

Sleep well Porky.

Take care xx

Its a hell hole. I cant wait to leave!!!!

Why? Is it what you foresee Teesside becoming or is it for personal reasons? (Genuine question)...

oh here go lads xx

I came back in 2003, i came back from a very successful media career working for a company back in the 90's called EMAP, i then went onto become a manager of many magazines, its the Boro way, we are clever, we are savvy. I then worked in the steel industry, and became a very good Quality pipe Inspector, I have lived a great life and made money in USA, EU and Middle East. You have to finally realise Teesside will never prosper because the arseholes that stayed behind are just not good enough.

Sounds like you've lived a good life Porky

I fitted in as much as I could mate, the first five years on Teesside was horrendous, Dole and the realisation, nobody gave a fuck...i got it, i fought for it...i got it, and i finally could afford a packer of ten regal.

Nice one porky.

As for Venna, who is playing the duffer in a movie, he needs to realise he isn't duffy and never will be, no matter how many drugs he sells, houses he robs or bums he knocks out.

Didn’t read like you were talking about his past there big fella.

Do you live in Middlesbrough?

duffy died in 91, Duffy apparently told him in his pushchair wearing his bomber jacket, he was going to be the next Lee Duffy. What toddler would even remember such a thing.

Come on caps, open your eyes and ears.

Maybe NOWADAYS he doesn't want to be the next Duffy......

He would have been 5 or 6 in 91, and whether that was said or embellished for publicity/sales, it still doesn’t give you the right to talk shite.

He never wanted to be “the next Duffy” he very rarely went looking for trouble, went off the rails slightly and openly admits mistakes he made.

Next time you fancy talking shit, give him a ring, I’m sure he won’t mind.

You'd know all about talking shit, you claim to live anywhere but Middlesbrough, when called out.

Now fuck off back to your normal posting...

fuck off dickhead

Its become legend, and like all legends, its crap. I was there, i was aged 18-25 during his reign. I saw him numerous times, he drank in every shite hole I drank in, he even turned up to turn over the Cleveland Hunstman at Hemlington, which resulted in Bouncers all over neighbourhood pubs. Yes, I know more about the man that I wont post on here, he was a bully, he wanted control, and he made life hell for every community in Teesside, what more do you want me to say. The guy wasn't a hero, you couldn't have a full conversation with him, he was an out right bully.

I just dont think that Lee Duffy is someone that Teesside, filmmakers, biographers should be focussing on. There are many more decent hard men who have done more for Teesside. Lee Duffy was a person that bullied everyone he came across, including my Mam in the Shakespeare pub, she stood up to him and he left. He was a nightmare, but to be romanticising this man is a travesty. We have more people in Teesside that did more good than this guy, and dont even get a mention.

I don't think any good can come from this. He smacked me and floored me in Blaizes in and around 1987 for no reason, he just asked me the time and next thing i knew bouncers were all around me, I never took a punch like it, and the white of my eye was black for days. I remember when I drank with my brothers in Eston, if he walked in he could empty a pub, and stories started to resurface. It was a long time ago, and with memory certain members of the Teesside community are trying to portray him as a Robin Hood. He was a bully, and he made life hell for many people on Teesside.

No, I loved the fact he used the word 'rhetorical', a much better phrase would have been 'rhetoric', which was much more current. So Gramsci is OK with me, he's tried, cant fault that, so no hardship.

Firstly, my questions cannot be rhetorical, I am discussing something that is current, so rhetorical is a word you have learned but isn't used in this instance. As for post count, I have no idea what that entails or means, I presume you mean I am posting to gain 'celebrity' status or garner some 'hits' for my posts. Bob, I am not one for conspiracy theories, but when does the truth become a lie, and vice versa. Certainly, the figures of infections and deaths do not add up. Did the virus just decide that Scotland wasn't worth bothering with. It's a catastrophe of the first order, families cannot see parents with Dementia, burials are limited and mental health for many many people is a serious worry. I believe I am not alone, when I say 'there is a rabbit away' somewhere. I fully understand the worry for elderly people. But if that was the case, why did the UK Government leave the tough decisions to UK care home regional managers to solve. The care home managers literally had thousands of families in the palm of their hands and refused to act upon it for insurance purposes. There are still many care homes who refuse to do anything about it, some of installed 'pods' and many have refused under the premise that its the Governments problem. This is one sorry state of affairs, and the legal cases will run into the billions.

How much did Preston spend in the summer ?

Firstly I dont care about PNE so I dont know what they spent. And I would imagine they have a bigger squad than we have, and on paper far more value. To quote Mowbray 'it is what it is', and by no means are we out of trouble financially, lets be honest Steve Gibson has publicly declared he needs the money. But lets be honest about this, the man and whatever you think about him, is ploughing his own money in. So much so, that on record, Neil Warnock has said he wouldn't have come if it wasn't for Steve Gibson. The grass isn't greener, we have to cut our cloth, and remember the good times, but also say hello to when we are falling. We have fallen, but I love what is happening, no more mercenaries, under 18s and 23s flying, Neil Warnock trying to tie down the kids to long term contracts to stop the Liverpool's of this world poaching them off as they have done for 40 years. No, I'm loving Boro at the moment. For once, i see Gibson and Boro have finally started to grow up. UTB

Decent manager, badly let down by a clown of a chairman.

Why is the Chairman letting us down? Would you start spending during this current season? You are right about Neil Warnock being a decent manager. I just don't know what you expect the man to do, either Gibson or Warnock. Neil Warnock has already jokingly in an interview told you that Gibson has instructed him to stop the rot, and stop Boro from being a relegation candidate, he has done that and some more. I think the Boro are finally doing things the right way, connecting the fans, and yes there will be defeats but, I'm over the moon with it all. Its just one match, a defeat, there will be other defeats, but the progress being made is in my humble opinion, unbelievable.

I was in the Royal Navy, and they didn't even know where to put me as a church goer so they bunked me with Scottish Pres?

Bill, can you explain with clarity who within the club infests it, as a fan maybe you know more than me, so I am interested in the infestation?
FUCKING BAUSOR GILL AND AND THE REST OF HIS FUCKING MATES
HE WONT LISTEN THATS WHY THE BORO ARE WHERE THEY ARE FUCK HIM WE DONT DESERVE WARNOCK  :wanker:

But how do you know he doesn't listen? Neil Bausor and Gary Gill I presume you mean are his mates so that then means he is in some way allowing nepotism? I have no idea by the way. But it harks back to Keith Lamb being the boardroom boo boy when I was never given 30 years ago a clear answer as to why? If you believe Gary Gill is a scout of limited abilities then, going off the Boro's track record of finding quite a few gems over the years then that would mean Gary Gill being useless is wide of the mark. Is Gary Gill head of recruitment, i dont know, im only going off what I read. I may have even read it on a web page, but does it mean he is Head of Recruitment. How do you know?
If you’re not Gary Gill I’ll be astounded. If you can’t identify the shite the club have spunked millions on over the past six years I will be double astounded.  For every bargain you name, I’ll give you at least five shite signings.

But Isn't that every football club? I would imagine the scouts around the UK were spitting feathers for not signing George Friend for 100k and getting 200+ games out of him at the top level. How many other clubs have wasted money, probably Boro more so because the area is a imagewise shitehole for attracting players, the reputation of the area precedes the reality of the beauty of the place.

“ He has outlined to Gibson the tools he needs to succeed” For a start get rid of the tools that infest the club from top to bottom.

Bill, can you explain with clarity who within the club infests it, as a fan maybe you know more than me, so I am interested in the infestation?

It's tough, i just hope we can some back on. However, that looks unlikely. We have to move on, opportunities for others. People have moaned and whined for too long, now they realise how well they were looked after. The sad thing is, the generation before are unemployable, and my current generation are just as bad in some ways. Maybe the restart button being pressed could be a good thing, only time will tell x

Im on the Guinness monkeyman. Been a tough week, redundancies at work, lads chins on the floor. Difficult times but it has to happen due to the economy. I look at the COVID19 figures, 44,000 deaths of which probably half were mis-reported. Its a case of 'Oh no, what have the British Government done?', or is it what have we fallen for. Onwards and upwards, back to work, get the money flowing again and business back to normal. Enough is enough of the shite x

I'm just pleased and heartened that Neil Warnock will be manager. Would I have felt the same 20 years ago, probably not. But football swings in roundabouts, Warnock would never have fitted the club 20 years ago. However, the game is up, the numbers aren't adding up. Back to basics. Good players who want to live around Teesside on a good salary playing decent football, what more could any fan want. No more mercenaries, no more trying to be something we will never ever be. Cut ya cloth. Hard to beat, hard to score against, and the occasional sublime move...Boro will challenge for promotion next season x

I could be wrong but I believe he came back in 84' for fuck all in money. He did it for the club and Mike McCullagh. A statue for me is the right call. Wherever i go in the world, opposing fans always comment on his team and the hoop. We were bloody good like x

A great man, apparently lived in Redcar when he first joined then Great Ayton. Galvanised a squad, added a touch of magic in Murdoch, and made Boro one of the clubs opposing teams feared. Loved a pint, a fag and loved the Boro and the area. Is a statue too far? He never won major honours, but he certainly put Boro on the map, and the 'hoop' survives. The endearing image of Jack is carrying the players tracksuit tops after warm up. RIP Jack x

What I am trying to say, and I don't know the bloke is, I have never met him and have no wish too. It fucking hurt me to see that, how must it have felt to Steve Gibson. He may have his faults, he isn't a Saint, and he may be human and make some bad decisions, but the man has tried to do the best for the town and the club.
He tried to give the town something to feel proud of, without the sniggers and the berating from Southern Press, Steve Gibson understood that the old industry was lost, but the club was still going, and if he could salvage some pride for the town and even dare i say make us into something special, then that isnt such a bad hit. Whatever anyone says about the man, I think he's the best thing to happen to Teesside in my lifetime. Like Morrissey...you'll miss him when he's gone. x
That might have been the case but not over the last decade. We were a skint club who generally flipped between the top two divisions when he took control but hadn’t won anything. We are now a million miles from the top flight, have won cup but amassed £100m+ of debt along the way. If he called his debt in the club would go bust and unless he writes the debt off, I doubt we’ll ever get outside investment.

It was good while it lasted.

I thought i was the miserable fucker round here, we'll be OK mucker. As for money i'll leave that to Price Waterhouse Coopers and Leon Trotsky, i ain't got any, i'm a peasant, i have £13.60 in my account and im a poor man, but every month on the 23rd im rich, sadly it doesn't last long x

What Methodists, yes sadly I agree, it got my family, they tried bless em x As for the football players, well;, they had a swagger, intriguing players, as for Bobby....legend isn't he no matter who he played for. We owe him so much. By the way, last Sunday i woke up to the news that Jack had died, my wife said ' Jack Charlton has died eh', i looked at her and broke down in tears, my wife picked me hugged me and she didn't understand, why would she, but the man that made Boro a household name deserved a cry xx
